if “i” am in charge of my mindset, what am “i”?

Hey Fam,

One of the regular themes you’ll find throughout CHEATSHEETS 4 stuff is that you are the one who’s responsible for your mindset. If you want success, you need to have a goals/growth/success mindset looking for opportunities, hustling and - behind the scenes - doing the grind

Who's the "I" in the Driver's Seat?

But if you’re changing up your mind - what is this “you”, if it’s not “your mind” and it’s not “your mindset”? And where does this “you” exist?

Mindset: The Secret Sauce to Transformation

Well, first up, fam, none of this is very definitively agreed or fully understood by researchers, neurologists, philosophers, or theologians

But here’s what we’re running with -

  • Sub-Conscious You: Your sub-conscious which resides in your brain

  • Mindset: Your brain's filter for viewing the world. It can be your greatest ally or your most stubborn foe. Think of it like a pair of glasses – change the lenses (mindset), and the world looks different - more clear or more blurry; closer up or further away

  • Changing Your Mindset: Deciding to change is step one, but the real magic happens with consistent action and reflection

Anatta: The Game-Changer

Annatta is a radical concept from Buddhism that basically says, "Hey, that permanent 'I' you've been stressing about? Doesn't exist." It teaches us that clinging to a fixed "self" is like trying to hold onto water – impossible and frustrating. Instead, embracing change and the fluidity of our "self" can lead to a more peaceful and fulfilling life. You exist as a reflection of what you see based on the the lens (mindset) that you’re seeing things through

So, What's the Deal with Mindfulness and Intentional Change?

Mindfulness is your mental gym. It's where you train your brain to observe thoughts and emotions without getting caught up in them. This is crucial for intentional mindset change. But if there's no fixed "I," who's doing the changing? Well, it's more about a process – a collective effort of your thoughts, experiences, and actions, all dancing together in the chaos that is life

Wrapping It Up with a Bow

Think of yourself as a constantly evolving installation artwork, where every brushstroke of experience adds depth and colour. Whether it's reshaping your mindset, exploring the concept of the self, or just trying to be a bit kinder to yourself – it's all part of this wild rollercoaster ride

So, next time you're up late, wrestling with thoughts of who you are and what it all means, remember – you're not fixed. You're not stuck. You're on a journey of transformation, and every step, every thought, and every moment of mindfulness is a step towards the person you're becoming.

And hey, don't forget to catch some Z's. Because sleep isn't just for the weak – it's the unsung hero of mental clarity, emotional resilience, creative problem-solving. And growth! So, dream big, fam, and let your mind do its thing

Change your mindset and you change the world
